What differences did you find between working in the Indian film and TV industry, and working in a UK production or an American production (King Tut’s Tomb)?
Definitely many differences. I find that UK and American productions are very well managed in terms of ~
Script is ready well in advance
Time and schedule planning is done quite in advance
The subject and topic is very well researched.
Professionals in every way, including the treatment meted out to the cast and crew .
You filmed in very isolated locations for Peril. How was it working in such conditions?
Yes, the location was very isolated as well as extremely hot. However, since I was brought up in a similar area, I personally did not have a problem in adapting. Besides, I developed a very good rapport with Michael Cochrane and Nandana Sen (who has now become a very dear friend). Together we had a fun time, discussing every topic under the sun! Especially with Michael, since we were ‘van mates’.
How did you all occupy yourselves when not filming?
We spent many a lazy afternoon chatting about all and sundry. Michael is a special sweetheart, who always brought with him laughs and guffaws. So, it was fun in all!
According to expressindia.com, we understand you are also a musician?
That’s news for me too! The only audience who likes to hear me sing is Dr. Nandini, who finds my voice sexy—and that’s about it on the music front!
What are your plans for the future?
I don’t believe in planning too many things at once--- because they never happen as planned! However, I am going to evaluate every opportunity and act on its merit. I have good reviews for my role in Sharpe, and am open to more acting offers from overseas (talks about such projects are already in process). I also plan on starting my own project as writer and director. Let’s see what life has in store in the future!!
Ulhas is preparing to direct a film entitled 'Kabhi Kabhi Mumbai Mein...’ (Once Upon A Time In Mumbai...) which he also wrote. Shooting is slated to begin this July. We at Sharpe Pointe wish him the best of luck!
