I want to thank Rifleman Moore for his section on the Battle of Waterloo, including the pictures of the women's camp. I confess I've never seen an episode of Sharpe or read one of the novels (to be remedied immediately). I came across this site researching family history.
My great-great-great-great-g randfather Daniel Gale was in the 3rd Battalion of the 95th. He'd only signed up a little while before Waterloo, so he was not in the Peninsular Campaign. His wife and daughter were in the women's camp. While the battle was going on Daniel's wife Mary tended the wounded while their five year old daughter Elizabeth tore up lint for the bandages. Elizabeth, my great-great-great grandmother, became Elizabeth Watkins and lived to become the oldest British surviving witness of the battle. She died in 1904.
